Dialogue 1: Animal Kingdom

Practice the dialogue with your friend

A         : This place is huge.
B         : I know. It takes all day to cover each animal kingdom.
A         : Good thing it’s not too hot. We have a lot of walking to do.
B         : Yes, we do. Do you want to start with the indoor exhibits? That’s where will see the chimps and orangutans.
A         : Since it’s near with the entrance let’s do them last.
B         : Okay. Then let’s head over to the bear compound. I’m excited to see the polar bears.
A         : I’ve never seen one up close. I hear they’re quite large.
B         : Wow! Look how big they are! Their coat is kind of yellow, I guess not as white as on television.
A         : Just the underbelly is yellow. Let’s go feed the brown bears. We can buy some fruits and nuts for them.
B         : Look! How close they come to get the food. They look bigger than the pollar bears.
A         : I think it’s just because they stand up more. All the bears seems pretty high.
B         : That’s true. Where to next?
A         : Let’s walk over to the big cat compound. I want to see Canadian bobcat.
B         : Sure. I’d like to see the leopard too.
A         : The bobcat is pretty small. Looks like a big house cat.
B         : I bet they don’t act like a house cat.
A         : Ha! That’s funny. I’m getting thirsty. How about we stop to drink before we hit the leopard cages?
B         : Yes. A little break for walking would be good. After the leopards we can go see the rhinos.

Dialogue 2: Giraffes are so cute

Practice the dialogue with your partner

A         : So Meg, we are talking about animals. Do you like to go to the zoo?
B         : I love to go to the zoo.
A         : Okay, so when you go to the zoo, what animals do you like to watch?
B         : I really like to watch giraffes. Giraffes are so tall and giraffes look really soft and friendly.  So I wish that I could touch a giraffe someday.
A         : Oh, that’s so true. There’s a zoo near my house in California, and you can walk up some stairs then you can feed the giraffes. And their face is the same height as your face and they look really really cute. Yeah, giraffes are great.
B         : Oh! Giraffes are so cute. Maybe someday, I can feed the giraffes.
A         : I like how giraffes look. I lobe their face. And I also love camels, also because i think camels have a similar face. They look really cool.
B         : I don’t think camels are very cute.
A         : Really?
B         : Yeah, they’re so hairy. Camels have so much hair that they look ugly.
A         : Oh really? I love camels. They always look cool and relaxed.
B         : Hmm. They do look relaxed, but I like giraffes better than camels.
A         : Well, what about llamas? Llamas are kind of like camels and they’re kind of like giraffes. They kind of have the same face. Do you like llamas?
B         : I think llamas look cute but I’ve heard llamas aren’t very friendly.
A         : Really?
B         : Have you heard about llamas spitting at people before?
A         : No. Actually, I think I heard camels do that but maybe llamas do it, too.
B         : Hmm. I’m not sure.
A         : Okay. So, what about other animals? What other animals do you like a the zoo?
B         : I really like the zebras because zebras are black and white with stripes. So the zebra stripes are really cool and zebras are similar to horses. So, sometimes I think I could ride zebra if I had one.
A         : Yeah, that would be cool. Zebras do look pretty cool. Are there any other animals?
B         : Well, there’s one animal that I’m afraid of, and that’s a bear.
A         : Yeah, bears are pretty scary.
B         : Bears are really scary and they’re so big with huge teeth and giant claws, and I feel like a bear would eat me if I meet it in person.
A         : Actually, have you seen a bear in the wild?
B         : No, I have never seen a bear in the wild and I really don’t want to.
A         : Oh well. In California, sometimes you can see bear in the wild, small black bears. And actually, the black bears are not that dangerous.
B         : Really?

The dialogue between a visitor and a zoo educator at the zoo:

Visitor: Hello! Good afternoon. I’m excited to explore the zoo today.

Zoo Educator: Good afternoon! Welcome to our zoo. I’m glad you’re excited. Is there anything specific you’d like to see or learn about?

Visitor: Well, I’m particularly interested in the big cats. Can you tell me where I can find them?

Zoo Educator: Of course! The big cats exhibit is located just around the corner to your left. You’ll find lions, tigers, and leopards there.

Visitor: That sounds amazing! Are there any special feeding or enrichment activities happening today?

Zoo Educator: Actually, yes! We have a feeding session scheduled for the lions in about 30 minutes. You can head over there to watch them being fed.

Visitor: That sounds like a great experience. I’ll make sure to catch that! By the way, do you have any educational talks or presentations about the animals?

Zoo Educator: Absolutely! We have scheduled talks throughout the day at various exhibits. Today, we have a presentation about endangered species at the conservation center at 11 AM, and another one about animal behavior at the primate enclosure at 2 PM.

Visitor: That’s fantastic! I’ll definitely attend those talks. Thank you for the information.

Zoo Educator: You’re welcome! If you have any more questions or need assistance during your visit, feel free to ask. Enjoy your time at the zoo!

Visitor: Thank you so much. I’m sure I will. Have a great day!

Zoo Educator: You too! Take care.
